GLICAFINE 40 is an oral antidiabetic medication formulated with Gliclazide 60mg, a second-generation sulfonylurea. It is primarily used to control blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) when diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications alone are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control.
Gliclazide works by stimulating the beta cells of the pancreas to release insulin and by improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. It helps maintain consistent glucose levels throughout the day, reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, and cardiovascular disorders.
Gliclazide binds to sulfonylurea receptors on pancreatic beta cells, enhancing insulin secretion.
It improves microcirculatory function by reducing platelet aggregation and thrombus formation, which is beneficial for diabetic patients with vascular complications.
Helps lower HbA1c levels effectively over long-term use.
GLICAFINE 40 is recommended for:
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults (non-insulin-dependent diabetes)
Patients not adequately controlled with lifestyle modifications and/or metformin monotherapy
Prevention of diabetes-related microvascular complications
Usually administered once daily or as directed by a healthcare provider.
The dosage may be adjusted based on blood glucose monitoring and individual patient response.
Should be taken with meals to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
✅ Effective blood sugar control with once-daily dosing
✅ Reduces the risk of long-term complications of diabetes
✅ Improves vascular health and reduces microvascular risks
✅ Safe and well-tolerated when used as prescribed
Not recommended in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Monitor for hypoglycemia symptoms (dizziness, sweating, tremors, confusion).
Use cautiously in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Avoid alcohol as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
